Ambar Universal is a light-curing adhesive system with high bond performance developed to be used under different acid etching protocols (self-etching, selective-etching or total-etching) on different surfaces (enamel and dentin, metal, ceramics or composite resin). It offers excellent results when associated to resin cements for cementing all types of prosthetic pieces. The adhesive is compatible to dual, self-curing and light-curing resin cements.

• Adhesive cementation (together with resin cement) of prosthetic pieces (intraradicular posts/cores, crowns, onlays/inlays, veneers etc.), fiberglass, ceromer, ceramic, resin and metal.
• Adhesive repairs in ceramic and composites.
• Increased adhesion to prosthetic pieces made of metal or ceramic (feldspar, the leucite-based, lithium disilicate, zirconia): use as a primer before application of the resin cement.

Step by Step

Surface etching: may be realized in three ways.

A. Self-etching Method:
There is no need for prior etching of the enamel or dentin.

B. Selective-etching method in enamel:
Apply phosphoric acid (e.g. Condac 37 – FGM) for 15 seconds to the enamel. Wash the surface with plenty of water and dry the cavity so that the dentin does not get dehydrated, but without the accumulation of water on the surface.

C. Total-etching method:
Apply phosphoric acid (e.g. Condac 37 – FGM) for 15 seconds both on the enamel and dentin, according to the preparation type. Wash the surface with plenty of water and dry the cavity so that the dentin does not get dehydrated, but without the accumulation of water on the surface. If the dentin needs to be moistened for application of the adhesive system, use distilled water or chlorhexidine (e.g. Clorhexidina S – FGM) in cotton balls. When moistening the dentin, also moisten the enamel and treat it with the wet technique.

Application of the adhesive system.

A. Dispense Ambar Universal in a Dappen glass or directly on a disposable micro applicator (Cavibrush – FGM). Apply two layers of adhesive – one drop each – to the surfaces of the moistened surfaces of the dental tissue. The first layer should be applied by vigorously rubbing the adhesive with the micro applicator soaked in the product for 10 seconds. It is suggested to use a sonic vibration device to enhance the penetration of the adhesive and thus increase adhesion.

B. Next, a second layer of adhesive should be applied, spreading the product followed by a light jet of air for 10 seconds for evaporation of the solvent.

C. Light cure Ambar Universal with blue light l (*) for 10 seconds (20 seconds in the case of application of intraradicular adhesive) and proceed with restoration or cementation.

NOTE: During application of the adhesive for cementation of the posts, avoid surpluses and accumulation of the product in the apical region. Excess adhesive in this region prevents evaporation of the solvent and impairs curing. The excess may be removed with the aid of absorbent paper cones.

As a primer for metal or non-etchable ceramics.

A. After blasting the inner surface of the piece with abrasives, wash thoroughly with air and water spray and dry with oil-free air.

B. With the aid of a disposable micro applicator, apply Ambar Universal to the inner surface of the piece (pre-treated) under friction, wait 15 seconds and then apply a light jet of air for 10 seconds.

C. Do not light cure, then apply the resin cement (e.g. Allcem- FGM) inside the piece.

As a primer for for etchable ceramics.

A. Upon applying hydrofluoric acid to the inner surface of the piece (e.g. Condac Porcelain 5% or 10%) for the time indicated by the ceramic manufacturer, wash thoroughly with air and water spray and dry with oil-free air.

B. Apply a thin layer of silane (e.g. Prosil – FGM) on the inner surface of the prosthesis with a disposable Cavibrush and wait 1 minute. Dry the surface with light jets of air.
B. With the aid of a disposable micro applicator, apply Ambar Universal to the inner surface of the piece (pre-treated) under friction, wait 15 seconds and then apply a light jet of air for 10 seconds.

C. Do not light cure, then apply the resin cement (e.g. Allcem- FGM) inside the piece.

• The recommended light-curing time for this product depends on the power of the light emitted by the equipment. It is recommended for the power density of the curing light to be above 400mW/cm², guaranteeing the quality of the polymer created and the quality of the bond.

FAQ

How does the incorporation of silica nanoparticles in the formulation of the adhesive help in the longevity of the bond?

The presence of nanoparticles in Ambar Universal increases the hardness of the polymer formed after curing by up to 45%, contributing to greater strength and stability of the adhesive film.

Why are two layers of adhesive indicated in the application method?

By applying two layers of adhesive, there is an increase in the resistance of the bond due to greater penetration of the adhesive to the layer of collagen fibers and reduction in nano infiltration due to perfect sealing of the interface.

The surface should be moistened for application of the adhesive to dentin. What about for enamel restorations?

For enamel restorations, the surface may be moistened or dry, as a small amount of water will not interfere with the adhesive. Unlike the bonding mechanism that occurs in dentin (hybrid layer), the bond on the enamel occurs by overlapping adhesive in the micro retentions generated by etching. There should not be excess water in these micro retentions so that the mechanism functions normally and, as such, the surface may be moistened or dry.

Precautions and Contraindications

• Use Ambar Universal only as informed in these instructions.
• The product is indicated for professional use only.
• Before applying the adhesive, make sure that the dentin surface is slightly glossy (moistened), but without excess water.
• The air used in the entire procedure should be free from oil and water.
• The recommended light-curing time for this product depends on the power of the light emitted by the equipment. It is recommended for the power density of the curing light to be above 400mW/cm², guaranteeing the quality of the polymer created and the quality of the bond. There is not possibility of over exposure. Light-curing units should have their intensity measured frequently using a radiometer. It is recommended that the patient and the dentist wear protective eyewear during the emission of blue light by the light-curing unit.
• Do not apply excess adhesive to avoid compromising the quality of the bond and prevent any aesthetic and functional problems. Excess air jet application should also be avoided, preventing the incorporation of air bubbles into the adhesive.
• Do not keep Ambar Universal within reach of patients and children.
• Ambar Universal contains methacrylate monomers. Avoid using the product in patients with allergy to acrylates/methacrylates. To reduce the risk, minimize the exposure time of the dental tissues to these uncured materials.
• Wear protective gloves when handling the product. If the product comes into accidental contact with the eyes or other oral tissues, wash with plenty of water.
• Be sure to close the lid of the bottle after use.
• In deep cavities, carry out protection of the dentin/pulp complex with a liner material or cavity base. Do not use materials containing eugenol as a base in order to avoid insufficient curing on the surface. The application of a high amount of H2O2 should also be avoided, as this interferes with the curing of the adhesive.

Preservation and Storage

• The packaging of the product should be closed immediately after use.
• For cleaning purposes, Ambar Universal may be removed with alcohol.
• Store the product in a clean and dry location in its original packaging.
• Do not expose the product to high temperatures or direct sunlight.
• Store the product at temperatures between 5 and 25ºC.
• Do not freeze the product.
• The validity period of the product is 2 years from the production date.
• Do not use the product after its expiration date.
• Follow the legislation of your country for disposal of the product.
• Do not reuse empty packaging.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Protect the product from external contamination.

Side effects

• There may be sensitization reactions in patients sensitive to any of the components in the adhesive formula. In this case, the material should not be used.
